Powai, Mumbai | Vijayadashami:
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) marked the completion of 100 years of service on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, commemorating a century of dedication to nation-building, discipline, and cultural values. As part of the centenary celebrations, a Path Sanchalan was organised in Powai, drawing attention to the Sangh’s long-standing legacy.
Founded on 27 September 1925 in Nagpur by Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the RSS was established with the vision of fostering unity, cultural pride, and national consciousness. Dr Hedgewar believed that India’s resurgence and long-term solutions to social challenges lay in the strength of an organised and awakened society.
A Century of Organisation and Service
Since its inception, the RSS has focused on organising society and building a self-reliant and strong nation rooted in cultural values. The introduction of the daily shakha—combining physical fitness, discipline, cultural education, and character-building—became the backbone of the organisation. Over the past 100 years, this system has nurtured generations of volunteers dedicated to social service and national development.
The Sangh’s ideology has found expression across various sectors through organisations working in education, labour welfare, tribal upliftment, rural development, student movements, and cultural activities. Prominent among these are Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Vidya Bharati, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), along with several other national institutions.
Path Sanchalan From Hiranandani to IIT Powai
On 2 October, Powai Nagar witnessed a disciplined Path Sanchalan from Hiranandani Gardens to IIT Powai. Swayamsevaks marched in an orderly formation, reflecting values of discipline, unity, self-restraint, and patriotism. The march drew attention from local residents and symbolised the RSS’s commitment to its century-old ideals of nation-building.
Looking Ahead to the Next Century
As the RSS enters its second century, the organisation continues to reflect on its legacy while preparing to address contemporary challenges such as social harmony, national security, environmental responsibility, and technological progress. Emphasising duty over rights and service over self-interest, the RSS remains a prominent socio-cultural movement shaping public life across the country.
The centenary Path Sanchalan in Powai stood as a reminder of the enduring influence of organised service and cultural values in building a confident and harmonious Bharat.
