Powai, Mumbai

Powai witnessed major chaos during the KDMC (Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation) Clerk-Typist recruitment examination, as hundreds of aspirants were allegedly denied entry despite reaching the examination centre on time. The incident has sparked widespread outrage among candidates and raised serious questions about the management of competitive exams.

Powai Allotted Despite Thane Centre Selection

Although many candidates had selected Thane as their preferred examination centre, aspirants from Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath, Badlapur, Karjat, and Kasara were unexpectedly allotted centres in Powai. This caused severe inconvenience, especially as examination centres were reportedly available in Kalyan and Badlapur.

Gates Closed 30 Minutes Before Exam Time

The examination was scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM, but gates at Aurum IT Park, Saki Vihar Road, Powai, were closed sharply at 12:30 PM. Due to heavy Mumbai traffic congestion, many candidates who had left their homes early were delayed. As a result, around 300 to 350 aspirants who arrived just minutes before the exam start time were denied entry.

Students Left Stranded, No Official Support

Candidates reported being left stranded outside the examination centre with no clear communication or assistance from on-site officials. The lack of guidance and support further escalated frustration and agitation among the aspirants, many of whom had travelled long distances.

Nearly 1,200 Aspirants Affected

According to estimates, nearly 1,000 to 1,200 candidates across centres were deprived of appearing for the KDMC Clerk-Typist recruitment exam. Many affected aspirants have since approached the Office of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, submitting formal grievances and requesting a rescheduling of the examination to safeguard their future.

Candidates Demand Accountability

Speaking to Powai News , one of the candidates said:

“Even after battling Mumbai’s severe traffic and reaching the centre before the exam time, around 1,000 to 1,200 students could not appear. Nearly 300 to 350 candidates arrived just minutes before the exam but were still denied entry. We hold the KDMC recruitment authorities responsible for this mismanagement and have approached the Chief Minister’s office, requesting that the exam be rescheduled so that no aspirant’s future is jeopardized.”

Concerns Over Examination Management

The incident at Aurum IT Park, Powai, has raised serious concerns over the planning, coordination, and sensitivity of recruitment authorities towards aspirants who invest months of hard work preparing for competitive examinations.
