Nine Ugandan and Kenyan Nationals Held in Powai for Illegal Stay

Powai, Mumbai | Crime News:



In a major crackdown on illegal stay by foreign nationals, Powai Police detained nine women from Uganda and Kenya for allegedly overstaying their visas and residing unlawfully in Mumbai. The action was taken as part of a city-wide drive initiated by the Mumbai Police Commissioner to curb illegal activities linked to foreign nationals.


Raid Conducted in Powai–Marol Area



Following sustained surveillance in the Powai–Marol belt, police teams acted on specific intelligence and conducted a raid at Hotel Dream Inn, located near Prime Academy School in Marol, on October 1. During the operation, nine women were found staying at the premises despite their visas having expired.



Identities of Detained Foreign Nationals



The women detained have been identified as:


  • Namunge Gloria (22)

  • Nabisubi Esther (20)

  • Kuriya Susan Wambuyi (33)

  • Enjeri Beth (28)

  • Bere Celestine (28)

  • Mewade Mere Sovinya (24)

  • Nguku Joyce Wanjiru (33)

  • Nugera Sarah Chajiko (28)

  • Mesdinch Nelly Chepkororia (27)



According to police officials, the women had allegedly concealed their identities and continued to reside in the city without valid travel documents.



Deportation Process Initiated



The detained women were taken into custody by the Women’s Police Unit, and deportation proceedings have been initiated as per legal procedure. Further investigation is underway to determine whether any additional violations or organised networks were involved.



Senior Officials Oversaw the Operation



The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Commissioner of Police Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Suhas Narayan, Additional Commissioner of Police (Western Region) Paramjit Singh Dahiya, Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 10 Datta Nalawade, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sakinaka Division) Deepak Mairale.

Ongoing Drive Against Illegal Stay



Mumbai Police officials stated that similar checks and enforcement drives will continue across the city to ensure compliance with immigration laws and maintain public safety.
